Student Registration

NEW MUSICIAN AND PEER MENTOR REGISTRATION

We’re so excited for you to be a part of United Sound!

Participation fee for both Peer Mentors and New Musicians is $35 per year. Students will receive a United Sound t-shirt, curriculum materials, and ongoing program support throughout the year. If your school/district is paying this fee, you still need to register. Parents of minor students should complete the registration form.

Questions? Email us at info@unitedsound.org

For any family who is financially unable to pay this fee, we do not want to prevent your participation in United Sound. If you are under 18, only a parent or guardian is able to request a waiver. Click on the button or send an email to info@unitedsound.org to let us know and you will receive a code to waive the fee.

If you’ve never been in United Sound, or you’re not sure what it’ll be like, don’t worry. It’s super easy! Here are some videos to show what you’ll be doing.

Rehearsals

You’ll meet once per week for 45 minutes. A typical semester might look like this:

  • Weeks 1-6: Rehearsals begin in the form of group lessons. Peer Mentors will help the New Musicians with first notes, sound production, and basic music reading.

  • Week 6: Peer Mentors create modified parts for each New Musician based on aptitude (It may be as simple as a 1-2 note melody)

  • Week 7: Continuing in group lesson format, students begin to learn the modified part that has been created

  • Week 9: Continue working in small groups and as an ensemble as you prepare to perform

  • Week 15: 1 Full Ensemble dress rehearsal (including New Musicians, Peer Mentors, and the rest of the members of the school ensemble).

  • Week 16: Perform!

Performances look different at different schools. You might even change between semesters.
