Peer Mentors - before signing up, make sure that you are able to commit to most/all Monday rehearsals. It’s very important for the New Musicians to have mentors they can count on! We know things come up (and that’s why there is more than 1 mentor for each New Musician!), but making a commitment to be there as much as you can is really imperative.

Mentor signup deadline - November 22, 2024 (so that we have time to recruit New Musicians)

If you’ve never been in United Sound, or you’re not sure what it’ll be like, don’t worry. It’s super easy! Here are some videos to show what you’ll be doing.

Rehearsals

You’ll meet once per week for 45 minutes. A typical semester might look like this:

  • Weeks 1-6: Rehearsals begin in the form of group lessons. Peer Mentors will help the New Musicians with first notes, sound production, and basic music reading.

  • Week 6: Peer Mentors create modified parts for each New Musician based on aptitude (It may be as simple as a 1-2 note melody)

  • Week 7: Continuing in group lesson format, students begin to learn the modified part that has been created

  • Week 9: Continue working in small groups and as an ensemble as you prepare to perform

  • Week 15: 1 Full Ensemble dress rehearsal (including New Musicians, Peer Mentors, and the rest of the members of the ensemble).

  • Week 16: Perform!

Performances look different at different schools. You might even change between semesters.
